I loaded up on running books last month at a huge book sale. Some were written by famous runners, some by coaches and others by non-famous runners. But the one thing that I noticed in a vast majority of these books is the whole chapters on SHOES!
And to make things worse, it seems to come in early part of the book. One book spent the first 1/3 of book on shoes, gizmos and clothing and then got into the ever sacred “run schedules”. This makes me want to puke even more than all the worthless fascination with SHOES.
Nowhere in these books do they talk about technique-DUH. Do you think in driver’s education classes they would just talk about how to shop for cars and never talk about how to drive!
Nowhere do they talk about corrective exercise so you won’t need to “pronation control shoes” -DUH
SO go spend gobs of money on overpriced shoes and just go out there and run. And then once you have started running, follow these pre –ordained, cookie cutter schedules.
AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
Yes, I know these schedules are well intentioned, but they should have big, bold warnings about how you should check with your Coach or use these schedules as a template and listen to your own body.
I will save the lecture on following cookie cutter schedules for future blogs when I have more medication.
