I am reading the book” Start Where you Are” by Chris Gardner of “The Pursuit of Happyness” fame. In this chapter of life skills, he tells the story about the importance of punctuality. Of Course, all of my clients know that this is a subject that is near and dear to my heart!
SO his story is about when he was in beginning stages of starting his own stockbroker company and running low on cash, he made an appointment with a potential wealthy investor. As Murphy’s Law, would so happen he ended up being 20 min late for the appointment. The investor said straight up”If I can’t trust you to be on time, how can I trust you with my money.” As much as it hurt, Chris had to agree with him. He goes on to say that after that he started wearing a watch on each wrist and padding his travel time with ½ hour so that would never happen again. And arriving early was always viewed in a positive light and many times gave him extra time to develop a better relationship with potential clients rather than jumping into a rushed sales presentation.
Moral of the story: the importance of punctuality keeps coming up in multiple areas of success teachings.
