In every athlete’s training program there will come a time when you hit a plateau. You all the sudden stop adding another plate to your weightlifting routine, or another 1/2mile to your run or your bike computer is no longer showing a faster MPH.
So what to do????
1. You could just go buy a new bike or running shoes and see if that fixes the problem.
2. Talk with your Coach is best advice. It is most likely time to try a new workout routine that will either boost your neuromuscular system or balance muscles that have been neglected.
For weightlifting routines, sometimes just switching to a week of very light wgt and high speed lifting will jazz up the neuromuscular system to increase your muscle fiber recruitment for better strength.
For runners and cyclists- a similar strategy is to switch to fartleks or hill repeats for couple weeks and then go back to your usual runs.
For everyone, it may be time to have your Coach take a look at your technique and make adjustments to your already “perfect form”. And check your overall muscle balance to be sure that everything is working together properly.
Remember Change is Good
AND training smarter is mo better
