Ok. Let’s talk about different types of runners. Trail Runners and Road Racers if they were listed in a scientific research book at Coach K University.
Physical Characteristics:
Trail runners- usually muscular and well fed. Think of Wolf for totem animal.
Road Racer- usually thin, wiry and near anorexic. Think of Greyhound for totem animal.
Training Runs:
Trail Runners-Will run whatever course looks most fun and challenging. Your trail buddy can show up and say “Hey, I found this cool run and I think it is between 5 or 20 miles.”
Road Racers- Will run an exact course that has been mapped out and will not deviate from the prescribed training plan. Your road buddy can show up and say “Hey I know this route that is exactly 4.3258 miles and give us the 12.6732 miles that we need for the week.”
Falling down on a Run:
Trail Runners- Will try to roll/flip/etc. and get style points and then get up and see if he/she has a worthy wound to show off. Will leave the dirt on and return to run.
Road Racers-They rarely fall due to running on only smooth, paved surfaces. But, if it does happen, they will hit the stop button on Garmin on the way down. Then calculate the distance of roll and subtract that from total run distance. Get up and start the gizmo.
Race Event Selection:
Trail Runners: They go for events that have Bad *#$ points. Finish time is irrelevant.
Road Racers: They pick races that are flat and will them a “good time.” Scenery is irrelevant.
I hope that helps with your science project. In the future, we will hope to provide a research presentation on the Walk-Run species.
